A graduate of Tufts University in 1992, Dr. Jeff Dello Russo, received his medical training from New York Medical College. Dr. Dello Russo went on to complete his residency training at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York (a Columbia Presbyterian affiliate) and his accredited fellowship training with the New Jersey Eye Center under the tutelage of his highly acclaimed father, laser eye surgeon Dr. Joseph Dello Russo.

Dr. Joseph Dello Russo

Our LASIK eye doctor in Manhattan and Brooklyn, Dr. Joseph Dello Russo, has been instrumental in the testing and approval of excimer laser technology for refractive eye surgery. Dello Russo is one of the leading laser eye surgeons performing these procedures, including Custom LASIK, today. The president of VISX, Inc., Mr. Mark Logan, referred to Dr. Joseph Dello Russo as “one of the pioneers of the excimer laser.” Dello Russo was also named “one of the top most experienced laser surgeons in the nation.”

Dr. Joseph Dello Russo's involvement began as early as 1988, when he first conferred with inventor, Dr. Stephen Trokel, regarding the FDA's phase one studies of the VISX excimer laser. In the following year, Dr. Joseph Dello Russo, participated in the first ever excimer laser correction seminar at Tulane University with Marguerite McDonald, the first surgeon to perform excimer laser surgery in the world, and Dr. Trokel. Following this, Dr. Joseph Dello Russo became the first surgeon to place an order for an excimer laser.

From 1991 to 1996, the FDA conducted phase three clinical trials of the VISX excimer laser. Dr. Joseph Dello Russo was one of 10 investigators who participated in this study and, during the five-year trial period, conducted more surgery procedures than any other LASIK eye doctor in the United States. The substantial results data submitted by Dr. Joseph Dello Russo and his team helped form the basis for the FDA's approval of the excimer laser. In 1997, Dr. Joseph Dello Russo was granted the first special approval by the FDA to treat farsightedness using the VISX laser. During these years, Dello Russo was interviewed numerous times by local and national media as one of the leading authorities on the excimer laser.

Dr. Joseph Dello Russo is both an innovator and an example to other ophthalmologists. Dello Russo's experience and work with the excimer laser and LASIK have been used to instruct hundreds of eye doctors in at Dello Russo Laser Vision, as well as at national and international seminars. Dello Russo was a frequent keynote speaker at these seminars from 1991 to 1996.
