Laser Eye Surgery | 4 Things You Need To Know

Laser eye surgery is the safest and most effective method of vision correction. However, with the numerous NYC Lasik surgeons out there, it is important to find the one who can best perform your procedure. Follow these four tips when shopping for Lasik to find the right eye surgeon for you.

Laser Eye Surgery is a Technique Sensitive Procedure

Lasik is a technique sensitive procedure. This means the person performing your laser eye surgery influences your safety and results. Choose a Lasik surgeon with ample experience. Many surgeons have performed only a handful of laser eye surgeries. In comparison, Dr. Joseph Dello Russo has performed more than 165,000 surgeries. There is no question about who is the most experienced Lasik surgeon in NYC or New Jersey. And experience matters.

Lasik is Also a Technology Sensitive Procedure

Laser technologies are continually evolving. With this comes continual advancements to the laser eye surgery procedure. New technologies make Lasik safer and more effective than ever. But new technologies and state-of-the-art laser systems cost surgeons a lot of money. Unfortunately, many NYC Lasik surgeons choose not to invest in the equipment that would provide their patients with the highest quality of care.

Dello Russo Laser Vision not only invests in new Lasik technology, its lead eye surgeon, Dr. Joseph Dello Russo is a pioneer of laser eye surgery and has personally assisted in developing these new technologies. Some of the state-of-the-art technologies offered at Dello Russo Laser Vision include wavefront mapping, Bladeless Lasik, custom Lasik, and more.

If you find an eye surgeon that is low-balling the competition in advertised Lasik cost, they probably have not invested in the latest Lasik advancements. Therefore, they are selling an out-dated, compromised procedure. Don’t trust your vision to the laser eye center offering the lowest advertised Lasik prices. It is not worth the cost to your eyesight.

Most Insurance Companies Do Not Cover Lasik

Most insurance companies consider Lasik to be an elective procedure. This means they consider Laser eye surgery to be a cosmetic option and not a medical necessity. Therefore, most insurance companies will not cover the cost of Lasik.

At Dello Russo Laser Vision, we know Lasik is an investment. Not only do we provide the utmost standard of care to ensure it is a good investment, we’ll provide numerous financing options to help you afford the cost of Lasik.

You Need to Schedule a Consultation

If you are serious about learning more about Laser Eye Surgery, you need to schedule a consultation with a Lasik surgeon. Most lasik centers offer a free consultation. While many patients research Lasik on the internet, an in-person consultation is a far superior method of researching your vision correction options. First of all, Lasik prices are usually determined by the individual’s prescription.  (The worse your eyesight, the more expensive Lasik tends to be.) This means, to obtain a personalized quote on how much Lasik costs, the facility will need to perform an eye exam.

Furthermore, not everyone is a good candidate for Lasik. The best way to find out if Lasik is right for you is from a professional. However, when scheduling a consultation, ensure it is performed by an eye surgeon. Many NYC Lasik centers delegate this important task to assistants who lack sufficient medical training. At Dello Russo Laser Vision, our FREE consultations are performed by Dr. Dello Russo himself. Not only will a professional determine your candidacy, you will also receive invaluable insight about your vision and treatment options from a leading Lasik surgeon.

What is Bladeless Lasik?

Wondering what is bladeless LASIK? Learn about the significant advancement in laser eye surgery technology, available at Dello Russo Laser Vision in NYC.

What is Bladeless Lasik?

Laser eye surgery, commonly known as Lasik, is a popular solution for blurry vision. But not all Lasik surgeries are performed entirely with lasers. Less advanced procedures employ the use of lasers for much of the operation, but still utilize a blade to create a corneal flap. The thought of using a blade to create a corneal flap during Lasik surgery may be disturbing for some patients. Many of these patients are interested in learning what is bladeless Lasik (also known as all-laser Lasik, blade-free Lasik, and femto Lasik.)

What is Bladeless Lasik and How Does it Work?

The process of blade-free Lasik was perfected in 2002 by Dr. Joseph Dello Russo. Instead of using a blade, the surgeon will use two different types of lasers to perform vision correction surgery.

In bladeless Lasik, an ultra-fast laser called a femtosecond laser is used in place of a blade. This femto laser creates a thin flap in the cornea of the eye. Once the cornea flap is created, the second laser  — the excimer laser — is then used to reshape the corneal tissue, which corrects the vision.

With bladeless Lasik, the need to use a sharp, surgical blade is eliminated with the use of the femtosecond laser. This should give patients a bit more peace of mind when it comes to going in for Lasik surgery.

What is Bladeless Lasik Ideal For?

While the obvious benefit of opting for bladeless Lasik is the fact that you won’t have a surgical blade cutting your cornea, there are other, more detailed benefits to electing for this type of procedure.

Benefits of choosing bladeless Lasik include a higher degree of accuracy for cutting a cornea flap, a lower risk of corneal abrasions, and a lower risk of induced astigmatism. These are all risks associated with traditional Lasik surgery that employs the use of blades.

Using a femtosecond laser may also create other opportunities to advance the benefits of Lasik surgery. For example, doctors may be able to correct other vision ailments such as nearsightedness by using a femtosecond laser rather than a blade due to the increased degree of accuracy. With the femtosecond laser, the surgeon may be able to create an even thinner cornea flap. This opens the door for the possibility of a more custom approach to each surgery, rather than a “one size fits all” strategy that comes from limitations.

Using a femto laser to create a cornea flap during Lasik surgery also gives the surgeon more control and precision, which reduces the risk for error during the procedure. Using a laser instead of a blade can be useful for reducing downtime and after effects of the surgery for patients.

What is the Best Eye Surgeon for Bladeless Lasik?

Lasik surgery has progressed much since it first stormed into the market. While advancements are constantly being made, the elimination of a blade during Lasik surgery is one of the most reassuring changes currently employed by eye surgeons who offer the latest Lasik techniques and technologies to their patients. Peace of mind is priceless, and blade-free Lasik surgery is an option that provides patients with a less invasive procedure to consider.
